HIP DYSPLASIA REVISTED
THE ROBERT ABADY DOG FOOD CO. LTD. DISCOVERS THE CAUSE OF HIP DYSPLASIA AND REVEALS ITS PREVENTION
Over twenty-five years ago, Robert Abady made an astounding observation, that while all the adult dogs he had imported from Europe as the foundation breeding stock for his famous strain of Bouvier des Flandres had perfect hips, over 50% of their progeny displayed varying degrees of hip dysplasia, most of it severe, much of it crippling. Mr. Abady returned to Europe and had all the breeding stock of the European foundation kennel x-rayed (over 30 adults) and discovered that in every instance the hips were perfect. The only difference between the European colony and the American one was the food each one was fed. The European colony was fed a diet that had stood the test of time that was comprised largely of animal by-products; the American diet consisted of commercial dry dog foods. Mr. Abady presumed that commercial nutrition was at fault. Proceeding from that premise, Mr. Abady set out to develop products that he hoped would eventually help eradicate this dreaded condition. Unfortunately, Mr. Abady’s records regarding these initial investigations and those demonstrating the improvements in his dogs through the rapidly emerging experimental diets were inadvertently lost by the veterinarians in charge of them, thereby preventing the Abady Company from being able to bring its unique nutritional advances to the public attention in a credible fashion.
Naturally over the years breeders from all over the country have recognized Mr. Abady’s efforts, but it was not until the beginning of the year 2000, in a remarkable review of the results of feeding Abady foods for the previous twenty years to nearly two thousand German Shepherd adults and puppies at the prestigious Fidelco* Guide Dog Foundation Inc. in Bloomfield, Connecticut, under the management of its most capable and principled Vice-President and Director of Operations, Mrs. Roberta Kaman, that the extraordinary merits of the Abady foods became undeniable. Abady foods, when fed as directed, prevented hip dysplasia. Every puppy whose feeding was under the direct control of Mrs. Kaman exhibited “textbook perfect hips.” Of the puppies placed in foster homes, 90% had perfect hips, 10% exhibited mild dysplasia, possibly attributable to the individual foster parents’ unauthorized mixing of Abady foods with other brands or due to underfeeding. Prior to feeding Abady, The Fidelco foundation fed national brands and experienced 50% hip dysplasia, much of it severe and crippling.
The Abady Company has always been viewed as being different from other dog food producers. Now you know why. Vive la difference!
